Petra, if you are fortunate enough to get it, doesn't make your civilization a superpower, it is meant to make some corrections and it merely helps surpassing the difficulties of such a great handicap, as having a lot of desert tiles. I concur that this is the only way you could survive so far as to research the appropriate techs and thus stand a chance to build Petra.Īnyway, how many sheep tiles? Any oasis, river, ocean etc.? If it is just desert (again, screenshot), I'd reconsider building my first city there. The above advices imply that things are set and you have no choice but to deal with what you got. Granary is a very high priority building, that's why Pottery comes first. Work food tiles until you get your population up a little. You said you have hills and gems and sheep, so you should be okay. If you have no hills, no mining luxuries, and no sheep, then you don't have enough production to build Petra. Depending on your neighbors and how many barbarians there are, you might want to research Archery before AH or even Writing.
